We visited as a family of four. The biggest thing to consider here is that the rooms aren't air-conditioned, which made each night of our stay very difficult to manage in the summer heat; the standing fans that were provided by the reception were not very powerful. The lack of air circulation and fans in the bathrooms means that any visit will leave you sweating. Windows can technically be opened (even all the way), but the lack of mosquito nets meant that leaving them open for longer than 10 seconds was a guarantee for bugs to get in. Considering that this is billed as an apartment/hotel hybrid, they should at least include the simplest things for the rooms (paper hand towels, hand soap at the kitchen sink, salt/pepper shakers...), but they don't. Otherwise, everything else was as expected.

This apartment hotel has a fantastic location. It is only a few metro stops from the main train station and only a couple of minutes walk from the Metro stop itself. Down the side street is a small supermarket, and near the metro is a busy shopping strip with boutiques and restaurants. We had a studio apartment, with a kitchenette. The space was nice, and the windows opened onto the boulevard. Nice but noisy. There was no high table, or chairs, so if we made a meal, we had to eat off our laps, or off the coffee table. Bed was comfy, but made of two singles put together. My partner and I kept sliding down the gap in the middle, even though the beds were pushed together. The bathroom has an over-bath shower, and getting in and out needed a bit of dexterity. It took a bit hunting to find the non-slip bath mat too, (under the hir dryer on the bottom shelf of the vanity).

Just back from a 4 night Christmas Markets family break in Brussels, the hotel was great. I was worried given the reviews but needn't have been. The duplex apartment was prefect for our family needs, it gave the kids space and the kitchenette was unbelievably well equipped. The rooms.could get a little warm (not always a bad thing), and the windows opened without any safety catches... made.me anxiousness the 5th floor, but the kids knew to stay away. The rooms were clean and tidy,.come.wirh all you need for a short stay. Location is perfect for exploring Brussels with the Louise Metro stop just steps away. There is a grocery shop along the side of the hotel, (wish we had realised this as we used the much more expensive metro stop store) Some say they felt nervous in the area, but we were fine and no issues. Some lovely restaurants close by and cab very much recommend La Vigne for amazing food. The reception staff were always very friendly and helpful when needed. Cannot fault for a budget mini break and would definitely recommend and stay again.

A disappointing experience

I have stayed at Citadines properties in numerous locations in Europe, enjoy ASR Gold status and was disappointed with my experience at this property. I was visiting Brussels on work for 3 nights and regrettably had to cut short my stay and check out after the first night. The property is centrally located. However, it's in urgent need of a refurbishment (or even just a good scrub down) and there's a general sense of wear and tear in the corridors and common areas. I had booked the Studio on Booking.com after reading some mixed reviews on the Tripadvisor website - but was reasonably confident of the ASR & the Citadines brand. Unfortunately the confidence was misplaced. The rooms were listed by the management on Tripadvisor as being air-conditioned. They were not air-conditioned in reality. The warm Brussels evening required some indoor ventilation in the room, so I was forced to open the windows, but the street noise was considerable. There is a large building across the road which is being brought down, so the day-time noise levels are likely to be considerable as well (although I didn't stick around to find out). The studio room itself has inadequate lighting, and was dated and dingy but clean and well-stocked. I will not be visiting the Citadines Toison d'Or again. Although, I must say that the management took the feedback without argument, and I have been assured a refund. Relying on 3rd party websites while booking is always tricky - but to be fair to Tripadvisor, the air-conditioning being listed as a facility was part of the management's own description of its own property - and not a generic review (it has since been corrected).

A Pleasant Stay in Brussels

We had a nice comfortable month long stay at this Citadines hotel in Brussels. It is located about a 20 minute walk from the Grand Place and near metro, tram and bus stops It is an apartment style hotel with kitchenette. The room we had was bright and spacious. The bed was comfy enough to allow for a good night's sleep. There is a grocery store right around the corner. There was a fair amount amount of noise outside the hotel in the morning. The carpet in the 4th floor of the hotel had an odor to it. But the hotel staff were usually kind and courteous. They even provided us with a fan as there is no temperature control in the room for hot July days. The hotel does provide 24 hour access to the coffee machine in their breakfast room but, if you like milk in your coffee, they are often out of milk. We did not have the hotel's breakfast and so cannot comment on it. Overall, our stay was a pleasant experience and, if in Brussels, we would stay here again.
